tips for crossfit / cross-training newbies!

i have a confession! i haven't worked out in 3 weeks. now, it's not entirely laziness. the first week, i was allergy stricken. my head was so foggy and i was dragging. even watching TV was a chore. the second week, i got food poisoning, and it took a good 4 days for tummy to settle down. then, this last week, i hurt my back doing who knows what. i took it easy, and once i was all good and healthy, i was ready to get back to my bootcamp. i called up my trainer to give here the heads up, and she said the group had disbanded. everyone quit! i was super bummed. i loved that class! it did amazing things to my tush! not to mention my motivation. i loved working out with a group. i had to another one!

i decided to check out my local cross-training gym. i was inspired by my awesome bloggy friend, Andrea. she recently started crossfit, and she makes it look super easy! go check out her blog, I'mperfect Life, for a huge dose of motivation! Andrea is a fearless crossfitting hottie that lost an incredible 100 pounds! read about her weight loss and infertility journey. she's got yummy recipes for you to whip up. oh, and did i mention she's also a former foster parent. she sounds like super-woman, right? she's perfectly "I'mperfect"!

for the year and a half, i've been doing crossfit workouts in the garage, but i've never actually been to a class at crossfit "box" (there called boxes because they're usually held in square warehouses). when i met Mr. Fit (the hubs) he was a hardcore paleo crossfitter. when i was ready to start working out, he trained me on proper lifting. the crossfit WODs are hands down the best workouts. they transform your body and strength! now, i throw some serious weights around, but the real deal rope-climbing, tire-tossing class makes me nervous.

i'm going for it! i called last night and asked if i could drop-in. my first class is tomorrow! since i'm biting my nails, i asked Andrea for some tips for newbies! there's no better person to ask. here you go:

Me: I'm super inspired by you! Do you have a few tips for me and anyone else who wants join a crossfit gym?

Andrea: Tips? Other than just do it? Um...I'd say the biggest thing is to remember that everyone started somewhere, so don't be discouraged if the others in your class are way ahead of you. It's going to be hard, but the rewards come quickly. I'm not sure if this stands for all Crossfit boxes, but I know mine has been SO supportive. It's exactly what I needed. I now have a core group of people who hold me accountable not just to be there but to be there AND work my butt off.

WOW...that's awesome advice, right! you can read about Andrea's first day, week one, and week two at crossfit. it's really good stuff!

now, i'm totally stoked and confident to go kick butt! wish me lots of luck and send me some good energetic energy my way! i'll be reporting back soon.
